Dedicated to the memory of Henry James Davis, known to his family and friends as Harry, Grandad Bonnie or Hazza

This site is a tribute to Henry James Davis. He is much loved and will always be remembered.

To family he was Dad, or Grandad Bonnie, to friends he was 'Harry' or Hazza', no doubt there are many more options but are not printable!

At 95 years old, after a full packed life, encompassing various positions in the military forces, serving all around the globe, followed by numerous roles in 'Civvy Street' including long distance lorry driving, Crittall Windows, and setting up his own window cleaning round over the weekends.

After Retirement, he still didn't stop, continued delivery driving, offered Chauffer services for weddings, and also helped at Richards Funerals.  He finally retired at 74, after helping out at Bridge Hospital in Witham, escorting the residents on outings / walks etc.  After this time his main occupation was 'Paper Boy' collecting and delivering various daily newpapers for himself and his neighbours.

His travels in the forces took him to all corners of the globe, he particularly liked it when it was Australia bound as this gave him the opportunity to catch up with family that had emigrated as part of the £10 Poms.

After leaving the forces he found himself in Witham, where he spent the rest of his life.  Having met and marrying Joyce he gained 3 stepdaughters and a stepson, at this point he changed his birth surname of Boaler to Davis.  Unfortunately this marriage was not to be, after a few years he met Gina, who was to become the 'Apple of his Eye' and 'love of his life'.

Harry and Gina married, and continued to live in Witham,  off Humber Road Estate, and enjoyed 35+ years of marriage.  During this time he kept a close relationship with his step children Sue, Alli and Kim.

Gina was truly his soulmate, and right up to the end, when he was in Farleigh Hospice his face would light up with the biggest smile and twinkle in his eye whenever Gina visited.

He spent 6 weeks in Farleigh, the attention and level of care he received was 1st Class, for which he was thankful for, immensely impressed by the dedication and humbled (which if you knew him was not a natural emotion you would associate him with).

He passed away early hours of 3rd June,  peacefully in his sleep, just as he wanted.

On his behalf, we would like to thank the Team at Farleigh for the amazing work they do.  There are no words to be able to express fully the value of the support they gave Dad, us and Gina during those difficult weeks.
